Jinshan District plans to link up 248 short rivers in the coming two years to improve environment and make the area more livable.

In Daijing Village of Zhujing Town, villagers have connected two rivulets with a combined length of merely 2 kilometers by dismantling illegal factory mills between them. After further expanding and dredging the branches extending to three nearby villages, now they have become a big river with a total length of 8.5 kilometers.

So far, four rivers in Daijing Village have been connected. There are altogether 16 rivers in the village.

In Jinshan District, there are 2,179 rivers, with a total length of 2,238 kilometers or with an average river being 1.03 kilometers long.

Jinshan has also introduced a guide rule on protection of river bank slopes, the first of its kind in the country.
